Spelthorne Borough Council will / has collected your personal information to allow us to undertake Biodiversity work. This work includes:
- answering any enquiries that you contact us with
- monitoring and responding to biodiversity and environmental issues
- working with neighbouring authorities, Surrey County Council and other stakeholders (including Highways England, the Environment Agency, Natural England) on biodiversity matters,
- the management of nature reserves, parks and open spaces including monitoring data
Spelthorne Borough Council will collect your personal details in order to be able to support biodiversity works within Spelthorne and to help you as a volunteer.
In order to comply with the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation, Spelthorne Borough Council (SBC) must provide you with the following information about your personal data that we have.
The Council will use the data provided to:
- allow us to answer any queries that you contact us with
- allow us to collect monitoring data
- we may share personal data with other departments within the Council and with partner organisations (e.g. Surrey County Council, Natural England, Environment Agency) where the law allows or requires us to
- in a few cases it may be necessary to share your data with crime prevention services and services executing the rule of law, including courts of law and emergency services
The Council will collect your personal data from you and from partner organisations and will be processing this data under the lawful basis of public task.

- your information may also be shared in emergency situations with relevant organisations, or if there is any concern regarding the welfare of individuals
- the Council will keep your data for a maximum of 6 years after the last contact was made

- you may request that Spelthorne Borough Council stops processing your personal data in relation to any council service (this may delay or prevent us delivering a service to you, we will seek to comply with your request but may be required to hold or process information to comply with our legal duties).
