Call for sites

The Council is required to identify and allocate sufficient land for a wide range of uses, including housing, as part of preparing a Local Plan under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. To support this process, the Council is undertaking a Call for Sites exercise.

Sites submitted through the Call for Sites will be assessed through the Council’s latest Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA). The SLAA is a key evidence document that helps determine the availability, suitability and deliverability of land to meet the Borough’s future housing and employment needs. Please visit the Council’s latest Strategic Land Availability Assessment page for more information.

If you would like to promote a site for development, all sites must be submitted via the Council’s Commonplace consultation platform. Submit a site via Commonplace (opens in new window)

The Commonplace platform allows you to:

  • identify site boundaries digitally;
  • provide ownership, availability and technical information; and
  • upload supporting documents where required.

Submitting a site through this process does not guarantee that the site will be allocated in the Local Plan or granted planning permission.

If you wish to update your details or areas of interest, please sign in to the consultation portal at https://spelthornecallforsites.commonplace.is/
