Spelthorne Borough Council would like to collect photos, video clips and memories to act as a tribute for VE day's 75th anniversary. In the context of the Data Protection Act, Spelthorne Council is the Data Controller. The Council is asking the public for:
- Photos and 5 second clips of themselves making the V for victory hand salute, and
- Their photos and memories of VE Day
In order to comply with the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation, Spelthorne Borough Council must provide you with the following information about the personal data you give to us:
- The Photos and video clips of you making the V for victory hand salute: may be published on our social media feed and will be used to create a photo montage as a tribute to mark the 75th VE Day celebrations. All photos and clips will be retained as part of the community tribute
- Your photos and memories of VE Day:will be used to create an archive for the purposes of capturing local images and memories of VE Day for prosperity and future generations
For both of the above:
- your information (i.e. your images and memories) may be shared online via the Spelthorne Borough Council website, the press and on social media via livestream. The livestream content will be made available to download for anyone who views it
- please note that websites can be seen throughout the world, and not just in the United Kingdom, where UK law applies
- photos may also be used to create a hard copy montage to be viewed inside the council offices
- the Council will retain your images and memories indefinitely as a historical record of how the local community commemorated the 75th anniversary of VE Day for future generations
- the Council will share your images and memories with interested local groups including Spelthorne Museum, and Sunbury and Shepperton Local History Society
- the Council will retain your email address, name and any other contact details for 6 years from 8 May 2020 - VE Day
- we are collecting your personal data as a Public Task to support VE Day
- the information will not be subject to any automated decision-making
